About: TLC2 | Civil Eng. Dept | IIT Madras
The construction industry’s contribution to economic and social growth for India is well known. However, this industry generates a significant amount of waste, creating challenges with sustainability; additionally, there is significant waste of resources, delays and cost overruns in construction projects. The TLC2 centre aims to develop innovative low-carbon, lean construction approaches for minimizing waste throughout the construction value-chain, and lead solution implementation across organizational and policy levels. More about TLC2
The Civil Engineering department has been in existence since the inception of IIT Madras in 1959 and most facilities are housed in the Building Sciences Block, The department has six groups, which are also reflective of the technical expertise of the faculty in the division: [1] Building Technology, Construction Materials and Management (BTCM), [2] Environmental Engineering (EE), [3] Geotechnical Engineering (GT), [4] Structural Engineering (ST), [5] Transportation Engineering (TR) and [6] Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering (HWRE) .
