Rethinking construction education – balancing innovation and industry needs with AI & sustainability

In association with Centre of Excellence on Technologies for Low Carbon and Lean Construction (TLC2)

About the GLF-CEM

The Global Leadership Forum in Construction Engineering and Management (GLF-CEM) brings together leaders of the world’s leading CEM programmes, industry innovators, and policymakers to share knowledge, build partnerships, and shape the future of construction education and research.

The 2026 Forum, hosted by IIT Madras, will explore how Construction Engineering and Management can drive transformation in the era of smart, green, and AI-enabled construction. With more than twenty emerging CEM programmes across India and accelerating global urbanisation, this year’s event provides a unique opportunity to connect global expertise with local impact.

The GLF-CEM 2026 Forum focuses on:

How can academic leaders reshape CEM programmes to stay relevant amid rapid technological change and shifting industry expectations?

This year’s forum aims for structured, peer-to-peer debate about how to re-design curricula, research, and academic leadership to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world — marked by digital disruption and sustainability imperatives in the construction industry.

Objectives

  • Discuss the integration of AI, sustainability, and systems thinking in CEM curricula.
  • Examine how to build future-proof academic programmes that attract students and industry partners.
  • Share strategies for growing international collaboration and mentoring new leaders in the discipline.

Participants

Deans, programme directors, and academic managers who design and lead Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) courses worldwide — joined by selected industry partners and early-career “Future Leaders”.
